About the project
Mission statement: To develop and test "unofficial" patches and add-ons
enabling support of
patent-free MIPS clone cores in open-source
software such as the GCC compiler collection, the Linux kernel, *BSD
kernels etc.
Greater objective: To contribute to the development of reliable low-cost
embedded platforms based on open-source, patent-free software and
hardware.
Project status
The project is presently in the planning stage. All questions and
suggestions are greatly appreciated.
History:
- 2004-06-01: Proof-of-concept toolchain (source + bin)
available
for preview. Not an official release.
- 2004-05-28: Project launch.
Releases
While the project has not made any official releases yet, pre-release bits
may be available from the random_bits page.
The project forums
are open to everyone who wishes to participate in the planning stage.
The terms MIPS Clone and MIPS Core are used here to indicate a generic family of RISC cores fully or partly compliant with the Stanford MIPS specifications.
